International Cittaslow Sunday 2010
On Sunday 26 September 2010, the historic river port of Goolwa marked the first World Cittalow Day along with more than 130 towns across the world. Goolwa, the first town in Australia and the first outside Europe to be accredited as Cittaslow, joined its “sister cities” world-wide with a range of activities that marked the unique qualities of Goolwa and its hinterland. The last Sunday of September will now be celebrated annually as World Cittaslow Sunday.
A full program of children’s activities, including free face painting, art and craft activities, music, and refreshments were provided in and around the Alexandrina Council area in Cadell Street. Visitors had an opportunity to learn a bit more about Cittaslow in Goolwa, such as the Food and Wine group, the Cittaslow Goolwa Community Garden, the Cittaslow Barrow and tourism. New members took the opportunity to join Cittaslow Goolwa.
As well as enjoying coffee and cake, sausage sizzle and local food with Alexandrina Cheese Company, visitors took the opportunity to explore some of the Cittaslow Goolwa businesses including Café Lime, Cafelicious, Hectors on the Wharf, Rankines at Whistlestop, Ginger and Spice, Caffe de Carlo, Goolwa Bakery and Café, Goolwa Fish Café, Bombora @ Goolwa Beach. The Australasian 1858, Adrift Goolwa and Artworx Gallery.
