Cittaslow Goolwa

Sunday 11th March - A big day at the Goolwa Wharf Precinct! Starting at 9 am the Cittaslow Farmers Market, then the ‘Fringe at Goolwa’ presented a sample of highlights from the Adelaide Festival Fringe. Followed by, from 1 until 5.30 pm, the final ‘At The Wharf’ for the 2017-18 season pumped up the volume and entertained the big crowd on the Signal Point deck and the adjacent lawns.

The deck was full well before the official start time of 1pm. The crowd was entertained by The Connections (from Alexandrina Connect) who played a very entertaining set. To the delight of all, the star of the afternoon, Chris Finnen, joined in with the Connections on stage for couple of numbers.

Chris Finnen is well known as Adelaide’s premier blues guitarist, but as he and the band worked their way through a long list of blues and rock favourites, it was obvious that the Chris Finnen Band is one of the most entertaining bands there is. The House of the Rising Sun, I got My Mojo Workin’, Chains ‘Black and Blue’ and many more favourites featured in a great afternoon of superb music. The classic Hendrix number ‘Hey Joe’ included a lot of Bob Marley and Pink Floyd licks! The Signal Point deck has seen all manner of fine musicians over the years but it is probably the first time that a guitarist who plays behind his head and with his teeth has been seen here!

A great show that completed a marvellous At The Wharf season. Roll on next summer!
