Core Program Blue.JPGGoolwa Produce & Artisans Market

When: Second and fourth Sundays from 9:00am – 1:00pm (and also on the 5th Sundays when they occur). The market is not generally held in January but on Friday, 19 January 2024 we will be holding an extra market from 11am to 3pm to celebrate the Tour Down Under riding through Alexandrina that day.

Location: Jeralde Park, Goolwa Wharf Precinct.

Cittaslow operates a stall at the Goolwa Wharf Market on two Sundays of each month. The stall is run by a small group of volunteers who set up and staff the stall during the Market. The Market serves to improve the quality of life of all who live, work in and visit Goolwa and the whole Alexandrina region based on Cittaslow principles.

It aims to:

  • Create community awareness of and access to good quality and nutritious food options
  • Promote and showcase the skills and products of local and regional growers and producers
  • Foster the community and environmental contribution of local artisans and makers of arts and crafts
  • Celebrate the unique character of the region
  • Encourage sustainable living opportunities

We seek to create a congenial environment where the community can congregate safely and take time to explore the products on offer, while supporting both experienced and emerging producers and artisans and helping to build their capacity and confidence.

Produce and preserves, available at the stall, are gathered from what is also exhibited in Cittaslow Corner, supplied by the Community Garden volunteers as well as other items from Cittaslow Corner including the environmentally friendly products and locally made crafts. This provides an opportunity to showcase and support local producers and artisans to the wider community. As well as showcasing  these products, having a stall gives us an added venue to talk to Market goers about Cittaslow, its values and explaining about and selling alternatives to plastics.

Volunteers staffing this stall can provide information about Cittaslow and membership forms.

A copy of the Cittaslow Market Charter and Guidelines can be found here together with Application forms for prospective stall holders.

NB:  In the event of severe weather (ie, extreme heat, rain, wind) or an emergency situation, Cittaslow reserves the right to adjust the hours of operation or not to trade on the day.  Notices to this effect will be advertised on Market signage and posted on Facebook.

“ … towns where people are curious about times past, towns rich in theatre, cafes, workshops, restaurants and spiritual places, towns with untouched landscapes and fascinating craftsmen, where people are still aware of the slow passing of the seasons, marked by genuine products, respecting tastes, health and spontaneous customs.”
