Core Program Blue.JPGGoolwa Produce & Artisans Market

Cittaslow Goolwa operates the Produce and Artisans Market on the 2nd and 4th Sundays from 9am to 1pm (also on the 5th Sunday when applicable).

Exceptions are: we do not operate through January or over the Easter weekend as Encounter Rotary has the licence for these dates.

In the event of severe weather (ie, extreme heat, rain, wind) or an emergency situation, Cittaslow reserves the right to adjust the hours of operation or not to trade on the day.  Notices to this effect will be advertised on Market signage and posted on Facebook.

Location: Jaralde Park, Goolwa Wharf Precinct.

Cittaslow appoints a Market Manager who oversees the operations on the day and organises volunteer staff rosters, while Anna Lentakis, a long-term stall holder, assists by organising the stallholder attendance and site layout.

The Market aims to:

  • Create access to, and raise community awareness of, good quality and nutritious food options;
  • Promote and showcase the skills and products of local and regional growers and producers;
  • Foster the community and environmental contribution of local artisans and makers of arts and crafts;
  • Celebrate the unique character of the region, respect and preserve local traditions, heritage and cultural practices;
  • Encourage sustainable living opportunities to reduce the whole community’s ecological footprint;
  • Activate public spaces and create a sense of pride and identity in the region.

A team of Cittaslow volunteers set up and staff the Cittaslow stall which functions as the administration and information centre of the site as well as selling: fresh produce grown by the volunteers at Cittaslow Community Garden; goods supplied to Cittaslow Corner including preserves, arts and crafts, environmental cleaning products, all focusing on local sources; and, native seedings propagated by volunteer Iain Langusch.

The stall also provides information about Cittaslow activities and related issues, including waste management, and receives applications for membership.

A copy of the Cittaslow Market Charter and Guidelines can be found here together with Application forms for prospective stall holders.

“ … towns where people are curious about times past, towns rich in theatre, cafes, workshops, restaurants and spiritual places, towns with untouched landscapes and fascinating craftsmen, where people are still aware of the slow passing of the seasons, marked by genuine products, respecting tastes, health and spontaneous customs.”
